Portland Girl Spotlight: Caitlin Murray of Purposeful Nomad

Hello beauties,

Team Portland Girl is BACK with our “Portland Girl” blog series. In this post, we are featuring a very talented Portland lady-preneur who also happens to be one of our VIP members.

Her name is Caitlin Murray. She’s a photographer, an activist, and a seriously amazing spirited gal that we are honored to feature. I've been wanting to feature her for months (ever since I found out she ran AMAZING travel programs all over the world)!

What kind of a "Portland Girl" are you?

I would say I’m a busy entrepreneur who is determined to fulfill my dreams! An accomplished life to me is being able to work in something you love while making a positive impact on the world. I have always had to juggle many different things at once and I have become a master at it. I’m a hyper-organized planner who loves travel, food, the outdoors, being in pajamas, and the beach!

What is your biggest outlet for your creative expression?

Now, it has definitely become my work! That's a good thing because I love what I do. I’m an architectural photographer here in Portland. (www.builtphoto.com) and I recently launched Purposeful Nomad with my business partner, Jessica Scranton. It's a travel company that provides hands-on, one-of-a-kind programs and retreats for women who are seeking to become challenged, inspired and more connected to the world. This business reflects all the experiences and facets I love about getting out and seeing the world. It is a culmination of both our passions in making a difference and broadening horizons for women globally.

What 1 food and 1 beverage could you not live without?

Coffee and good cheese.

What is your favorite part of living in Portland, OR?

I love Portland because it allows me to “be me” without judgement. I feel free here and that to me is inspirational. I constantly feel surrounded by people doing different things, starting businesses, doing good, caring about what their lives look like. I moved from the East coast almost 11 years ago and my community here is something I have never experienced in my life. It is a vast, close-knit group that I can always depend on for support, a laugh, and surely a good party! Among other things that keep me in Portland are the food of course- but it is more about the unwavering desire to provide good quality food; our standards seem different here, the landscape, and quality of life.

What is your current self-care routine, and why is it important to you?

I’ve definitely stepped up my skin-care game in the past 2 or 3 years as I head into my mid-thirties and suddenly have noticed things aren’t what they used to be! For skin, I really try to go hydrating and as natural as possible with products. I'm a member at The Portland Girl, so I get monthly facials, drink lots of water, and daily moisturizing is a MUST!

I tend to overload my schedule and social life, so good alone time is really important for my being. Exercise, reading, music and being cozy always make me feel good!

You can learn more about Caitlin and her retreats at Purposeful Nomad or even meet here at one of our many studio parties we have throughout the year!
